Tiny shampoo bottles, creams, and soaps — it’s always nice to preserve the memory of an interesting trip by getting some useful things from the hotel you’ve stayed in. It turns out that there are a lot of interesting and useful things that you are allowed to take with you from your hotel room. Though, you have to make sure you don’t get too carried away.
Bright Side is always in search of things that can benefit our lives, and this time we finally found out which things hotels let their guests take home. All of them are extremely useful!
Items like mini-bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and tiny bars of hand soaps are classics. There is nothing wrong in taking them with you! Their small size is perfect for travelers and they can be carried without any restrictions in your hand luggage during your flight home. Deodorants can also be added to this kit and yes, they can be taken for free too.
Your hotel might also provide you with small bottles of body lotions or hand creams. Feel free to take them with you. You can keep them in your handbag and use them when your skin feels dry.
Even if you brought your own oral care items, it can’t hurt to pick up an extra toothpaste or mouthwash provided by your hotel. The toothbrushes they give out usually come in travel sizes too, so it’s nice to have that with you. You might use them on your next trip or just have them in your bag for some situation when you need to freshen up your breath.
Even if you own an electric razor, that doesn’t mean that you can’t take advantage of the free disposable one that the hotel staff left for you. If you forget to charge your electric razor, then the one from the hotel will come in handy! Shaving cream usually comes along with it, so don’t forget about that either.
I didn't know that hotels have sewing kits
The sewing kits provided by hotels are lifesavers for many travelers. The kits usually come in a compact size, which makes them perfect for carrying in your luggage. If you aren’t sure, you can always ask the hotel staff if you are allowed to take it and they usually don’t mind.
This is another very helpful item for many travelers that can sometimes found in hotel rooms. If you don’t have one, you can ask for it at the hotel’s front desk. Most hotels will provide their guests with shoeshine sponges, napkins, or even whole kits that they can keep.
In some hotels, even a shoehorn is included in the bill. A portable cheap shoehorn is free to be taken by the guests. Also, in some hotels it can be replenished for free, in case you broke the previous one. If you don’t find one in your room, you can always ask your receptionist if they can provide you with one.
Some hotels will put disposable hairbrushes and combs in the rooms for their guests. After you leave, used ones are getting thrown away. So you can opt to keep these complimentary items for yourself and your future trips!
Hotels don’t mind if you take their stationery or envelopes. They have their logo on them and they can serve as a good advertisement. While for you, these items are free and handy. So, everyone is happy in the end.
You can find bags of coffee and tea in almost any hotel room. They can be taken by the guests without any charge. Later on, you can enjoy them at home, remembering your nice hotel service.
Most of the time you can’t take tableware from your hotel room with you. Though, if you really want to, you can ask at the front desk if you can keep their mug. Usually, they won’t mind it. And, once it gets approved by the staff, you’ll know you aren’t stealing anything.
You need to make sure that bottled water is not a part of the minibar. Ask your hotel staff about it first, and if it’s not, this means you can take it for free.
In cheaper hotels, bathrobes are not allowed to be taken home. If you try to take them, they will charge you. But in some more expensive hotels, the bathrobes are included in the price of your room. Some of the hotels may even embroider your initials or the hotel logo on them. This means that they are yours and only yours and you are free to take them with you.
Usually the slippers that are provided by hotels are disposable. If you leave these used slippers in your room, they will get thrown away after you are gone. So there is no harm in taking them home. However, this only applies to cheaper disposable ones. In more expensive hotels they sometimes use expensive slippers that they clean and sanitize after their guests leave — and those can’t be taken.
You can get umbrellas at the front desk of some hotels. Although, they are usually not free to take, you can talk to the receptionist and ask them if you can have one. Sometimes they don’t mind. After all, umbrellas also have the hotel’s logo on them and can serve as a good advertisement.
